I love Conan O’Brien’s sketches with his graphic designer Pierre Bernard entitled “Nerding it up for Pierre”. Not at all due the fact that I totally get the references though. Sad. True. Hilarious. But I thought it would be great to come up with a very short list of characteristics/attributes/likes/desires that would let you know if you are an archetypal web designer or not. This is highly subjective and ridiculous, but this is my blog isn’t it?
How to Know if You Are a True Web Design Nerd
1. Like Nancy Kerrigan’s teeth, you like white space.
2. your mind is always in the gutter {margin-right:15px;}.
3. You read A List Apart, and have made multiple CSS Zen Gardens. That’s uber designer cool.
4. You wish Eric Meyer made a global reset for life.
5. You espouse a belief in the life affirming goodness of Helvetica.

Wow. What a week for us web geeks. And Steve Jobs.
So the major news of the week has to be the release of the 3G iPhone. Despite the fact that programming for handsets and programming for the web are digital oceans apart, many users will be accessing the sites you so painstakingly craft pixel by pixel on the iPhone’s 480×320 pixel screen and built-in browser. Whether this means creating a mobi stylesheet or alienating the “uber-cool” users whouse the iPhone, you will be affected by this. Arrington has some great commentary on the release of the 3G phones. Oh yeah, and the 2.0 operating system has already been cracked.
What, Steve? You think you can keep nerds from getting what they want? You can’t. Nobody can. Read More…

Let’s be honest, whether you act like CSS is your native dialect or if you just can’t get the acronym right in the first place, it’s nice to have a bit of help. Enter the HTML and CSS cheat sheets from Added Bytes. Post this on the wall next to your desk or use the image as your desktop wallpaper, and your development time is sure to see some benefits.

Well, here we go.
In conjunction with Gladden Group’s main site, but on a much more personal level, I have decided that it is once again time to start blogging. An interesting decision considering the web is strewn with fantastic blogs about design and… well… just about everything. Even Star Trek. The primary topic of this blog will be design, with a special focus on design for the web and the business of web design. These are topics that are particularly crowded with amazing blogs. That said, this may just be a cathartic experience and nothing else. I’m okay with that. Although, devoted readers and adoring fans will be rewarded with digital gems of unmeasurable worth. I will release XHTML + CSS compliant website templates, menu systems, graphics, fonts, icons and anything else that I deem to be usable by the design community. So read on, comment, subscribe, bookmark, Digg, download and enjoy!
